How ORBIS Transformed Mamite's Life
Unfortunately, Ethiopia is all too often the backdrop of the blinding eye infection called trachoma. Left untreated, trachoma leads to trichiasis, a painful, blinding disease where the eyelashes turn inwards and scratch the surface of the eye.

Dr. Carter - Diabetic Retinopathy in Mongolia
Dr. John Carter, Retina Associates from Virginia, USA and ORBIS volunteer faculty member, joined the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital programme in Mongolia to address the growing issue of blindness related to diabetes, along with other conditions within the field of vitreoretinal diseases and treatments.

Transforming Lives in Mongolia
As a child, Zolzaya suffered from a congenital eye movement disorder most commonly characterized by the inability of the eye to abduct or move outwards. Her experience with ORBIS changed her life forever and has inspired Zolzaya to become an Advocate for Sight.

Paediatric Glaucoma in Syria
Glaucoma is a leading cause of avoidable blindness worldwide. In the case of paediatric glaucoma, undetected and/or untreated cases can lead to irreversible blindness. ORBIS volunteer faculty member, Dr. Sandra Johnson, perform sight-saving surgery for Saleh and Jenan, two brothers who were suffering from this eye condition.

Iraqi Doctors and the Flying Eye Hospital
The ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital program in Syria was attended by ophthalmologists from Iraq - making this the second time in recent history that ORBIS has been able to extend its skills exchange programs into this country. ORBIS knows no boundaries in its fight against avoidable blindness and it is important that doctors from all nations have the opportunities to exchange skills and ideas with their counterparts around the world.

Peadiatric Outreach in China
ORBIS staff joined partner hospital, Hu Eye Hospital, for an outreach program in the outskirts of Dalian, China. ORBIS aims to build the local capacity so that they are able to properly treat the eye diseases of their citizens.
