The ESCRS is supporting the establishment of a Paediatric Eye Care Unit at Gondar University Hospital in northern Ethiopia. ESCRS is funding the human resource development of the paediatric eye-care team, including supporting two ophthalmologists to attend paediatric ophthalmology and retina sub-speciality fellowships. The funds also paid for a ‘Hospital Based Training Programme’ at Addis Ababa’s Menelik Hospital and three ophthalmologists were given hands-on training on standard paediatric cataract and strabismus surgery.

The society currently has 4,000 members from over 90 countries worldwide and its Annual Congress is attended by over 6000 international delegates.
