Great Wall Discovery, China

16 - 24 October 2010

  • Trek the Great Wall of China
  • Climb steep pathways, explore ancient watchtowers and experience incredible mountain vistas
  • Optional extension to Beijing or the Terracotta Warriors in Xian

Your challenge starts with a trek through the Black Dragon Pools National Park and on to Gubeikou. After trekking to Gangfang, you will have the opportunity to meet and mix with local villagers and experience Chinese rural life.

Each day you will trek approximately 12 kms along the stony path, winding your way amidst the breathtaking mountains and crumbling watchtowers.

The trip is demanding but very rewarding, particularly on a clear day when you can look at the vast and beautiful mountain range. It doesn't take much for your imagination to transport you back several centuries to a time when the wall was the frontline defence of imperial China.

At the completion of your trek you will return to Beijing to explore such attractions as the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Lama Temple.
